33rd Street (Avenue of the Americas (6th
Avenue) between West 31st and 32nd Streets.)
This is the terminal for PATH's Hoboken to 33rd
Street (Blue) and Journal Square to 33rd
Street (Yellow) lines. It has 3 tracks on 2 side
platforms (one for each side) and 2 island platforms in between.
Tracks 1 through 3 are arranged from east to west, all 3 tracks can
have trains open doors on both sides. Usually when there is a 4
line operation, (during most of the day), Journal Square trains will
use track 1 or 2, while Hoboken trains will use track 3.The end side
platforms are for exiting customers only, while the 2 island
platforms are for boarding customers, thus trains arriving on either
track 1 or track 3 will use one of the side platforms. When
customers exit through the side platform, they will use either one
exit door or go out through the new turnstiles that were recently
installed at this station. Fare control is on the same level and
the station platform, via ramps. Before the new turnstiles were
installed, there were 3 to 4 exit doors for each side platform.
Station is fully ADA accessible via. elevator just alongside the
fare control area and near the exit doors from track 3. The lone
exit door on each side has a special ADA ramp, the ramp must be
longer than the current ramp and have an easier grade so a W/C can
use them. The main fare control area is the centerpiece of the 33rd
Street-NJ lines and is accessible to NYCT IND 6th Ave subway and BMT
Broadway lines through indoor access, as well as direct indoor
access to Manhattan Mall. For more information on the NYCT 34th
Street-Herald Square complex, please click
here. Technically, the PATH station is situated underneath
Greeley Square, not Herald Square, and had a separate entrance from
the BMT. When the IND 6th Ave line was constructed in 1940, the
station was made into a complex, linking the PATH station as well.
The 33rd Street station has a second part-time entrance at West 31st
Street and Avenue of the Americas(6th Avenue), it is open weekdays
only from 7 AM to 7:30 PM and has 2 street stairs and one stair from
mezzanine level, which has a crossover, to platform areas.
