This line was built  by the LIRR as a shortcut to the Rockaways in 1872 as competition to another railroad .It turned off the main line at Hillside.

After leaving here it went directly to Cedarhurst.

When the competitor was  bought out the current route was used instead. It was revived in 1905 with service set for 1908 and set unused till 1918 when it was torn up. Another revival was started in 1928 , with electrification, but was stopped by the depression. It was torn up again and sold in 1934.
