There are four
major schemes, one of which has three sub types.
Type
I A, the most common has a solid color
tile band with the station name on one
line with no break in the tile band. Example:79th
Street on the 1
Type
I B has the
tile band interrupted with a mini tablet, in a different color
containing the station name on one or two lines. Example: Fulton
Street 2 and 3.
Type
I C
resembles Type Ia, except the type
style is different and the station name is on two lines. Example
Franklin Avenue Brooklyn 2.3.4.5
Type II has no tile
band but features a mini tablet instead. Example: Nostrand 3,4.
Type III has no
tile band and no tablet, but has the station name directly on the
tile with one character or space per tile.
Example: 14th Street 1,2,3.
Type IV is found
only at 59 Street Lower Level platform
on The East side and is full IND pattern with a border of two half
height tiles with the tile band and
name centered between the two
borders.
