LIRR Manorville Branch (Sag Harbor Branch) This line at its longest length ran from Greenport to Montauk and was an attempt to thwart competition. It was built in 1870.The original section ran from the main line at Manorville to Eastport, Southampton and Sag Harbor and in 1895 to Montauk . it was cut back in stages till finally abandoned. Your webmaster feels that it would serve a purpose today to connect the twin forks of Long Island and should be run only between the two branches and not the two existing terminals, however, it will probably never happen due to low levels of service to both Montauk and Greenport.
