Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is home to the first subway in the South. The system has three lines, a hub station (Five Points)  and one branch.

There is talk of a Belt Line encircling the city with a mix of bus, light rail, heavy rail and Bus Rapid Transit (Exact mix and exact station locations are  still undecided). When this line is built ( which will be in stages)  it will be added to this section.

Unique to MARTA is an identification system based on distance from Five Points.   Since it is the hub of the system Five Points has no letter and number. Where a line branches off. the number used is the next number from the main line but with the branch's letter .For example Bankhead is P4 and is After Ashby Street (W3)

MARTA has recently colored coded their system with one admitted oversight. The original name for the Northeast-South line was to be the Yellow Line but residents served by the line took the term as an ethnic slur and the name was changed to Gold Line.
