NJ TRANSIT Current Passenger Car Roster
All COMET II & COMET IIB Trailers and Comet II Cab Cars have been overhauled and rebuilt into Comet III/IV compatible trailers.. NJ TRANSIT Comet IV Cab Car 5009 renumbered 5030 to make room for Metro-North Comet IV Cab 5009. Cars 1600-1609, 1700-1760, 5100-5134, 5707-5751 built by Pullman Standard in 1971-1973 for NJ Department of Transportation for use on Erie Lackawanna lines. Cars 1600-1609 are former Snack Bar Cars.Cars 1600-1609 and Cars 1700-1760 are equipped with Low-Level Platform Only doors. 5100-5134, 5707-5751 rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen in mid-80s Cars 5220 and 5221 have 122 seats. NJT Comet II rebuilt and Comet IV Comet V Cars feature Microprocessor Controls with enhanced diagnostics, Epic Braking System, Digitized Voice and Visual Annunciation System utilizing a Global Positioning Satellite System for Station Arrival Information. MTA Cars are owned by MTA Metro-North Railroad and are operated by NJ TRANSIT in pool service on all NJT lines. Cars are painted for MTA or Metro-North Commuter Railroad. Comet V Cars are dedicated to Metro North West of Hudson Service. MTA Cars are owned by MTA Metro-North Railroad and are operated by NJ TRANSIT in pool. MTA Comet I will be rebuilt by Metro North for East of Hudson Service on portions of Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Lines Cars 5155-5169, 5220-5234 were built from former Arrow I MUs. MTA Comet V cars were built to NJT specs Arrow III MUs can be intermixed with Arrow II singles Upon full delivery of Bi-Levels, all Comet I and IB cars are slated for retirement Renovation planned for Comet III and Comet IV Cars (SOURCE: NJT web site) Roster by Michael Steinberg
