(West = to Gladstone, East = To Hoboken.)
Stations East of Summit are served by trains on the Morris and Essex and Midtown Direct Lines. We will begin our tour of this rural line at Summit. All platforms West of Summit are low platforms. This line has one track with passing sidings and still features wooden caternary poles which are being gradually replaced by the more common steel I-beams. Our first station is new Providence with a station house on the South side and a bus shelter. Next u[ is Murray Hill also with a bus shelter on the South Side A siding is just west of this station. Berkeley Heights follows with a. nice, well-maintained station house on the North side. Next up is Gillette with a station house on the South side. There is physical evidence of a removed North Track or siding. Stirling is next and has a concrete bus shelter on the North Side with an asphalt platform. Millington follows with its two grade crossings and a nice , well-maintained brick Station house on the North side. Leaving Millington behind the land becomes rolling and wooded with a siding to the north. Lyons follows with a mini high platform. Baskin Ridge follows with a station house on the South Side. Bernardsville is next with a well-maintained station house on the North side housing a deli. The station ahs a nice canopy and and asphalt platform with a stream to the south.. Far hills is next and features a stucco station house on the South Side. Pea Pack is next . The station ahs a closed wooden station house on the North side. Gladstone is next and last. This station has a full high platform. serving the North Track. An old low platform and station house are to the west the old low platform is served by a bus shelter on the East end and station house on the west end. The high platform ramps down to the parking lot.. The South and Center Tracks are not used. The North track ends at a bumper block at the West End. |
