Have you ever ridden the system and wondered how the system works?

This new section will answer some questions.

Subway Train Relays

Relay is defined as the process by which trains change directions at the end of their run. Most Lines simply stop at the terminal and allow passengers to board and exit freely. Some lines as listed below have extended relays and do not allow passengers to remain on board during the extended relay process. An exception at this time, to this policy is the 6 train through City Hall Loop

Please note that this policy is subject to change at any time with or without notice. Your webmaster and/or site staff will not be responsible for any summons or arrest of you and/or your party for not getting off a train on the following lines at  the  listed terminal(s). Always obey any instructions from MTA employees (even Station Agents and/or Cleaners. They may be repeating instructions given by authorized personnel), Police, Fire, EMS. They may be aware of an incident requiring changes in service.  Note that while MTA employees do not have arrest power, they can and will  call for police to enforce their request to leave a train. Once police arrive the final outcome is solely at the discretion of the police. The police might ask the MTA employee for the basis of the request and even request to see the MTA employee's pass and/or badge  but the police have the final decision.

Site staff will not respond to requests for specific track(s) used for extended relays

Thank you to  TSS Alex LaBianca for his input!

Any additions or corrections/amplifications are welcomed.

Highlighted Bold type denotes not all trains  relay as shown, but only those as noted
