Second Avenue Subway

Second Avenue Subway Map

This line is intended to be a trunk line with the T running from Hanover Square and Water Street to 125th Street/ Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and the Q running from 125th Street/ Lexington Avenue to 63rd Street then via the 63rd Street Tunnel to 47th Street/7th Avenue and then to Coney Island. The map  is from the MTA web site

For details on the two lines see the Q extension and T train pages.

The line is intended to be built using tunnel boring machines, cut and cover and in some cases mining. The outlook for completion is brighter since the federal government has authorized final design work.

This site will assume that MTA has decided on the Water Street alignment rather than the Nassau Street Alignment which would reuse the now closed platforms at Bowery and Canal. We make this assumption based on the above map
