Fern Rock is on the
surface, the only such station on the line. Transfers are
available to Regional Rail Lines. The station is on an
embankment, and a loop track is at the north end. To the west of
the station is a yard. There are three exits; the northernmost
exit has a high wheel turnstile, the center (closer to the
north) exit has a token booth, and the southern exit ramps down
to a booth and the Regional Rail Lines at street level. The
station has sodium lights
Olney has four
tracks and two island platforms. Tile pillars are blue. This
station has tactile edges and is fully ADA complaint including
elevators. The full mezzanine has blue tile accents. An
escalator is at the north end along with five exits to the
Mezzanine The ceiling has transverse metal slats and brown paver
platform floor
Erie has four tracks and two island platforms and has
green tile columns with no side wall color. Platform pavers are
two tone gray accents with green accents. The North exit has a
crossover and leads to Erie Avenue
North Philadelphia has four tracks and two island
platforms. While technically an express station, only locals and
Ridge Spur trains stop here. There is no color at platform
level. The north exit leads to Glenwood Avenue via a high exit -
the northwest stairway being boarded over Fare control is at
platform level. The center three exits are removed. The south
exit leads to Lehigh Avenue. Mezzanine has two tone blue
accents. This station once had a direct entrance to Amtrak North
Philadelphia Station on the R7 Trenton Line.
Platforms here are very long.
Girard has four tracks and two island platforms and
has no tile. The south twin stairways are closed while the north
twins lead to a crossover. The Mezzanine does have tile accents
of gold and maroon.
Fairmount has four tracks and two island platforms on
the main level used by Locals only. Renovation is in progress.
(At long last it is getting needed TLC!) . Exit is up at the
north end and then down to exit. Some navy colored art deco
signs were seen here. Station Columns are painted orange. The
Spur is on a lower level of two tracks and an island platform.
There is a crossover to the northbound broad street line but not
to the southbound. The renovation suggests there is hope for the
spur.
Spring Garden has two tracks and two wall platforms with
no free crossover or crossunder. It was closed In1992 due to low
usage when overnight service was ended. It has been discovered
by vandals who have tagged the entire station.
Chinatown
has two tracks and two wall platforms. Tile is
almond with three row high orange accents. The station name is
in English and Chinese. It has vent chambers and a crossover
8th and Market has one track and one side
platform on the east side. Tile is grayish almond . ADA access
is at the south end while the center is up three steps. The
Market Frankford and
PATCO lines have separate fare control
areas
