In a world that is continuously changing, so are the risks and benefits connected with particular actions and decisions. A recent Reddit discussion asked, “What just isn’t worth the risk anymore, and why?”
The responses provided insight into people’s collective consciousness as they navigated the complexity of modern living. Here are a few of the risky activities people stepped away from for their own good.
1. Chanel
Chanel sells most luxury items. Price hikes occur year after year.
2. Work Yourself to Death.
Make an effort to keep your professional and personal lives separate. A redditor said, “When I leave work, I do not check emails, texts, or phones regarding work.”
3. Climbing Mount Everest.
Too many people have done it and set a crappy flag up there, making it look like a trash-filled beach.
4. Having a wife and children in your 20s.
It’s not like the old days when marriage was stable; right now, one of the two doesn’t like the color of the bedding, and they’re about to divorce. It’s simply not worth it anymore!

5. Road rage.
It’s not worth responding to anything while driving. Ignore them and move away. Make no gestures, and simply ignore them.
6. Fast food.
It’s not as quick anymore. The last time I went to Taco Bell, I didn’t even grab my food before having to return to work because I only had 30 minutes for lunch.
7. Having children while suffering from anxiety or depression
There is no community/village framework to raise them in, schools in the United States are failing, and the expense of living continues to rise.
The criteria for parenting children and being a kind parent have changed so much that I don’t know where to begin. Everything is frowned upon: “a fed baby is a happy baby, but don’t you dare use formula, red dye #40, only buy organic, is that processed?!”
I’ve realized that if I want to retire, we need to be child-free.
State lotteries. It is a tax on the impoverished.
8. Respond to unexpected doorbell calls.
There’s always a salesperson. I don’t need solar, pest control, meat, a hard water treatment system, satellite TV, or anything else they’re offering, and I’m not interested in dealing with people who won’t take no for an answer. Get off my grass.
9. Dating
Let’s keep things simple and avoid the “You’re just dating the wrong type of people” response.
There are enough selfish, entitled, and misled people that it is not worth the effort.
10. Drinking and driving.
Never was, and especially not now. Get an Uber driver.
