After Lizzo attended the 2024 Met Gala, she made a big announcement and branded her detractors as “fatphobic,”

This year’s Garden of Time dress code was interpretable by the 36-year-old musician at the yearly star-studded event, as she wore a corset gown with cascading flower petals. Completed the pop diva’s botanical-inspired ensemble was a matching headpiece.

Following her stunning performance at the Met Gala, the Grammy-winning vocalist made it apparent that she would not put up with critics.

The singer wrote on her Instagram page, “IF IM NOT IN UR BEST DRESSED UR FATPHOBIC,”

Her fans had lots of things to say about her statement as one commented: “I’m not fatphobic I just don’t like the headpiece.”

The dress’s creator, Victor Weinsanto, claimed that when stylists Matthew and Reginald Reisman requested him to replicate the dress—which he had created for his Spring/Summer 2024 Perfect Day collection—for Lizzo’s presence on the Met Gala red carpet, he initially found it hard to believe.

He told the newspaper that the main inspiration for the look was the harmony found in nature. According to him, he just wanted the idea of flowers and gardens.

The dress showed the beauty of a rose during its lifetime because the gown had sprays of dried flowers. Different tones and mixed colors were used to portray the rosebud, a rose in full bloom, and the moment at which a rose withers and dies but is still gorgeous.
