Ron Ellis, the oldest worker at Asda’s Trafford Park store in Manchester, just celebrated his 90th birthday, but he’s not thinking about retirement anytime soon. He’s been a familiar face at the store since 2006, spreading joy to customers with his friendly manners.
His coworkers at ASDA surprised him with gifts for his birthday, making it a day he’ll always remember. Before joining ASDA, Ron worked as an estimator for a steelworks company, but he’s found a new sense of purpose in greeting customers and assisting at the checkouts for the past 18 years.
Ron describes his coworkers as brilliant and fantastic, and he values the ideas they share. They consider him family, with colleague Rachel Smith describing him as a “true gentleman.” Ron’s acts of kindness, like paying for a customer’s shopping when they forgot their bank card, show his caring nature.
Despite being a big Manchester City fan himself, Ron enjoys friendly banter with customers, even if they support rival football teams like Manchester United. It’s all part of the welcoming atmosphere he helps create at the store.
ASDA customers appreciate Ron for always making them feel welcome and valued. According to an ASDA spokesperson, customers have praised Ron for his positive attitude and friendly demeanor, calling him a great guy who brings happiness to everyone he meets.
Retirement isn’t on Ron’s agenda—he loves his work and the connections he’s made with customers and coworkers too much to consider stepping away.
As long as he can continue brightening people’s days with his presence, Ron is happy to keep working and spreading joy at Asda’s Trafford Park store.
